Or you could just buy a multi-port Thunderbolt adapter(that supports USB 3) for less than $10 when they are released making your half-baked scenario completely worthless.

I stop reading everything you said after this statement. You are clueless dude. Go back to school or finish school or jsut stop typing.

Me neither. I wonder if the suspects were armed...or at least how smashing glass doors escalated into gunfire.

It mentions in the article that there was an exchange of gunfire, so apparently the bad guys had guns. Chalk one up for the good guys....

Herp derp. Im pretty sure there will be a minor spec bump as well, and exterior design in a laptop is a pretty important feature or a "function and should be taken in consideration just as well (or not even more) than a new "ixy procesor" and a "8650 gt mx" graphics card, which in most cases just serve as a hard on for spec geeks.

why am i even responding you are clearly bitter and are writing purely from that bitterness.

Oh yeah, I'm bitter that we're not still using Titanium for the exterior of the Pro Mac laptop line. Clearly, I must, y'know, feel resentment for some silly reason for all of you people who, for some sillier reason are sick of the Unibody design. Yeah, 'cause I totally have emotions on reserve for inconsequential things like that. Man, get real.

Specs are what truly matter. If the chassis is designed to be sturdier, more rigid, and more durable, and easier to service than these models, that's a great upgrade. If it's only a stark cosmetic change, then that's not at all worth going nuts over, unless you, like many (but certainly not all) Apple customers, are superficial like that. Newer processors and better graphics DO matter as we use our computers for apps, and beyond using a freakin' web browser and running Word a lot of these apps demand the hardware to run them. And if they don't now, they will eventually. That's how computers work? Or are you still repping the Titanium PowerBook G4 yourself?

No I can't just get an Air. Not if I want a quad-core i7 dedicated graphics, an SSD boot drive and a 1TB HD for data. That sounds awfully "Pro" to me.

Aww man, poor you, having to put up with the optical drive at the cost of a 1TB hard drive (that you could easily get eight times the amount of via the Thunderbolt port). Life must suck. The optical drive must really be keeping you from getting lots of work (Macrumors forum trolling) done. Yeah, for you, they should kill it. You're absolutely right. Come on, if you want thinness and no optical, the Air is your machine; if you want Pro features (and granted, not all of them will serve YOU), get a MacBook Pro; but whining that the MacBook Pro has a feature that YOU don't find a use for, but someone else does, is about as selfish and as silly of an activity as they come.

while they can not break out of existing deals it can effect future deals.

As for the current agreement when things like Apple sueing Samsung happens and Samsung is a major supplier this is when shipments get delayed or start arriving late. Apple falls to down on the list as clients that are important when supplies run short.
If Apple needs a rush order guess what not going to happen. Generally you do not want to piss off your big supplier because they can cause you a world of problems with out breaking any contract.

I don't think that's the way it happens... it's usually based on money and executive compensation. Most companies have business units that operate somewhat independently (maybe except maybe Apple and that's because SJ has been known keep his people in line).

That is, the VP of Samsung Displays division isn't going slow down shipment or de-prioritize his good customers, just because the VP of the Cell phone division got into some trouble. He/she will not compromise his executive bonus for another division. Competition is fierce inside a company and often leads to infighting (ala Microsoft) (if anything, the VP of Displays may even be happy if the VP of cell phones is unsuccessful). I have _no_ evidence or proof of this at all, just my observations of silliness from years of being in industry.

    P.

What else would you expect to hear? No company would just bow down and give up....

Samsung couldn't pull out on any existing deals, otherwise they'd be in breach of contract.

They could supply some botched batches of screens and such. Apple has to watch out. They're doing great, no need to b**** about such little things. Stuff looks similar if they're in the same market. As long as it's not 99% identical they should just carry on making money:cool:

You think Mac fanboys are intense, Oprah fangirls are radically intense and a couple of orders of magnitude more numerous. The demographics of the audience tells the story of the "heartstrings" decision to support a charity targeted to women and children.

As for why release it on TV and "risk" a leak (which has happened obviously)? It's simple. The TV audience is vast. The Orpah watchers are MOTIVATED and spenders.

I agree. Oprah is an industry all by herself and if this rumour is true and she tells her audience to go and buy the new RED iPod to help in the fight against AIDS, I'd be fairly confident in predicting that it would be best-selling iPod ever.

Tell ya what..If I want to watch a full length movie I'm gonna do it in my living room in front of my TV NOT wherever the computer is.

Wow, you really don't get it.

Watching on the tv is exactly what this is about. The whole point is that you don't need to have a *computer* or even a *hard drive* next to the TV since you can just stream the video from a computer ANYWHERE in your house.

Seriously, did you even look at the picture you responded to?

Our courts have said that the U.S. Constitution requires the publication, among other requirements, of DUI roadblocks. Other requirements of roadblocks include the police having a set procedure of how they are going to pull cars and that the procedures are adhered to during the roadblock. Thus, when the police set up a roadblock they have to publish it in a local newspaper.

I'll say it again "App Store" is a generic term, I think everyone should be able to use it.. I hope Apple doesn't win this one.. If someone used "Mac App Store", completely understandable..

It's not generic they coined it. It's theres.

Office and Windows are/were generic words OUTSIDE of the computer industry (like Apple). But app(lication) store is a generic word INSIDE of the computer industry and that the big legal difference here.

Like I just said.... Mac's had windows (and they called them that) before PC's had "Windows". Mac OS has used windows and trash and all that drag-and-drop and double-click-a-file goodness long before any DOS PC had it. Xerox invented it, sold it to Apple, and Apple used it in the Mac.

"Windows" was a generic term in the computer industry before Microsoft had any trademark.

EDIT: I still think neither should be allowed, but given the precedents out there I would give Apple the "App Store" trademark. Certainly MS is the pot calling the kettle black here. Considering their windows-based operating system is called "Windows" and their Office productivity suite is called "Office". These guys should all have to come up with better names for their stuff if they want a trademark. Like.... why not just stick an "i" in front of it? iApp Store (see how easy that was).

I do know that USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt are really great, but it bothers me that Apple seems to be abandoning Firewire. I always thought of Firewire as an apple technology. I've read that there are now Firewire 1600 and 3200 technologies.

I do hope that Apple will adopt the new USB standard. I see USB as being much more useful for average users than Thunderbolt. I was really surprised years ago when I found that my new iPod was unable to use the Firewire cable that my first iPod used.

Apple HAS to file a lawsuit in this case.

If they did not, then they open the door to not being able to protect their assets in court down the road if someone else tries to copy anything Apple offers.

Non-issue here people. Just playing by the rules of the game.
actually, this is true. at least in the US, if you fail to defend your copyrights or trademarks in court, that constitutes abandonment of said copyrights and trademarks, which then legally entitles anyone to freely use them. so yes, apple is required to sue anyone who makes a suspiciously similar looking product.

This is great for my alcoholic blackouts. Fire up the program and find out where I've been. Although on my last trip to San Diego it put me across the border and into a Tijuana cat house.

If the guys from The Hangover had iPhones, their backtracking of the previous days events would be much easier.

    using the keyboard, how quaint

Far faster than using the mouse. Mac OS X is very good at providing keyboard shortcuts, far better than Windows, although that may have changed with Windows 7.

I don't even get the point of your snarky comment. You know damn well that the functions are also available via the menus and right mouse button too.

If my memory serves me correctly Conroe will not be pin compatible with Merom, is that right? I just can't remember what's what anymore. Old age.

As far as I know, the first generation Merom is pin-compatible with Yonah, the Core Duo mobile processor that is in the MacBook, MacBook Pro and Mac Mini at the moment. And if I'm not mistaken, Kentsfield will be pin-compatible with Conroe, which is not used in any Mac at the moment.

EDIT: But no, Conroe and Merom are not pin-compatible.

I use both.... and all I can say is "CUT and paste". Windows has had it for years, OS X SL doesn't. Same with window snap.

I love OS X, but, like with a lot of Apple products, its the "little things" that matter...

Both are great operating systems, and I will continue to use both since I cannot run Visual Studio on Mac, or XCode on Windows... :)

It does have CUT and Paste.

    Command-X = Cut
    Command-P = Paste
    Command-C = Copy
